Compare colleges and peer groups across two decades of IPEDS data

In development. A general-purpose public version is being built from the research dashboards I made this summer.

The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) holds a trove of information on every U.S. college, but it is spread across hundreds of survey files whose variables change from year to year. I built a pipeline that harmonizes those files into consistent institution-by-year panels.

IPEDS Explorer helps you visualize that data:

• Explore: plot the variables you choose over time for the colleges you choose, against predefined peer pools such as flagships, Power 5 schools and US News top-50 lists
• Migration: map where students from a state enroll, and where a college’s students come from
• Majors: the mix of completions by field for the selected colleges
• Cohorts: how a college compares with its peer pool on majors, race and ethnicity, graduation rates and SAT bands
